In April 2021, Writer and Doctor Michael J. Daly fell critically ill with sepsis and adult onset Kawasaki disease, a rare multisystem disorder that left him near death and in intensive care for weeks. During that illness, he suffered prolonged bouts of visual hallucinatory delirium and fantastical trips from his hospital bed, all while debating what was real and what was not. 

 

This first-person VR theatrical experience explores the unravelling of a doctor’s identity as they fall ill and become a patient for the first time. The work explores the complexities of that experience from the 'other side of the fence' and articulates a real-world, honest perspective on illness, vulnerability, and humanity.
