Video projection triptych on window film
CURIOUS is composed of a prolonged and evolving motion graphic that feature in the corner windows of Open University building, it attempts to make a more explicit reference to the research process at the Open University.
The Open University’s interest in interdisciplinary research resonates with my creative practice; in particular the Digital Humanities at the OU shares processes of documentation, collaboration and experimentation that can be found in my own practice.
In reviewing the 50 years since Harold Wilson’s statement on the “University of the Air”, I acknowledged how change in technology has shaped the research process. Drawing inspiration from the mapping techniques found across the research activities of the Digital Humanities at the OU, this piece acts as a cartographical visual composition of the OU’s research framework, textually expressing the themes that guide all Open University research projects: ‘openness’, ‘collaboration’, ‘answering old questions with new methods’ and ‘trying to answer a new question not yet asked’.
Curated by Carrie Neely and commissioned by The Open University.
